Powdery Mildew

Back Next

Powdery mildew looks like pieces of white cotton on the leaves. It thrives in thick stands of susceptible wheat varieties under cool, humid conditions. It rarely causes significant losses in Kansas. The disease may look severe and still not cause much loss if it does not infect the flag leaves and heads. Varieties that are rated susceptible (rating of 8 or 9) should probably be avoided in the eastern part of the state.
