November 28, 2005

The current total as reported to the CDC:

Kansas has a total of 62 positive results for West Nile Virus.  These include 26 positive mosquito pools, 14 positive results from equine and 22 probable or confirmed cases from humans.

November 15, 2005

The current counts for west nile virus in Kansas are:

21 probable or confirmed human cases
14 equine cases
26 positive mosquito pools.

October 31, 2005

The latest numbers from KDHE show a total of 60 positive reports in the state of Kansas.  This includes 26 positive mosquito pools, 14 positive equine and 20 probable or confirmed human cases.

October 25, 2005

The latest positive totals reported in the state of Kansas are as follows:  26 total mosquito pools, 12 equine, and 18 human probable or confirmed cases.

October 22, 2005

Latest report from KDHE to the CDC includes a positive mosquito pool from Gray county, bringing the total number of positive mosquito pools to 26.  Also reported are a total of 12 positive equine tests (Anderson, Barber, Bourbon, Coffey, Douglas, Edwards, Gray, Johnson, Labette, Marshall, Reno, and Wabaunsee Counties.  The total number of probable human cases is 6 and confirmed human cases is 7 (total of 13).

October 14, 2005

KDHE has confirmed the first death in the state of Kansas resulting from West Nile Virus for 2005.  The report is from Meade County. 

October 10, 2005

There have four new horse cases reported in the state of Kansas.  One each from Barber, Edwards, Gray and Johnson counties.  This brings the total number of horse cases in the state to 12 positives.  Other positive tests include 25 mosquito pools and 8 human cases (5 confirmed and 3 probable).

October 5, 2005

The latest news from KDHE 7 cases of West Nile Virus in humans, with 2 still listed as probable and 5 as confirmed.  The cases are reported from Douglas, Johnson, Kingman, Rice and Stafford counties.  In addition to human cases, 5 horse cases have been confirmed from Bourbon, Coffey, Labette, Marshall and Wabaunsee counties.

as of this date:   there have been 4 human cases (2 confirmed, 2 probable) reported in the state of Kansas.  In addition, there are 3 equine cases and there have been 15 positive mosquito pools.

August 31, 2005

Two additional horse cases have been reported, one from Decatur County and the other from Reno County.  That brings the total to three positive equine so far this year; 10 positive mosquito pools and 3 human cases (one confirmed and two  probable).

Three probable cases of West Nile Virus have been identified in Humans (Douglas, Finney and Rice Counties).  One positive result has been reported from equine (Anderson Country) and one positive mosquito pool in Trego County.

July 13, 2005 - the first positive mosquito pools have been detected in Trego County.

There is the first report of a horse testing positive for West Nile virus - the animal was from Anderson Country.  KDHE will be issuing a press release.
