  Updated Information on West Nile Virus Surveillance Program in Kansas

• To date, there have been positive results obtained from 103 counties within Kansas.
• Positive results from humans have been confirmed by the CDC (see map showing counties with confirmed human cases). There are three cases still pending.
• Horses have tested positive from 97 counties (see map for just horses below), while bird sampling accounts for the remaining counties (see map for birds). 
• Mosquito pools have tested positive in five counties (see map for mosquitoes).

• Birds have been collected from the following counties: Atchison, Barber, Barton, Bourbon, Brown, Butler, Chase, Cherokee,  Clark, Clay, Cloud, Coffey, Comanche, Cowley, Crawford, Dickinson,  Doniphan, Douglas, Edwards, Ellis,  Finney, Ford, Franklin, Geary, Gray, Harvey, Jackson, Jefferson, Jewell, Johnson, Kiowa, Labette, Leavenworth, Lincoln, Lyon, McPherson, Marion, Marshall, Miami, Mitchell, Montgomery,  Morton, Nemaha, Neosho, Osage, Osborne, Pawnee, Pottawatomie, Pratt, Reno, Republic, Rice, Riley, Republic, Rooks, Rush, Russell, Saline, Sedgwick, Shawnee, Sherman, Smith, Stafford, Stevens, Thomas, Trego, Wilson, Woodson, and Wyandotte counties.

• The following counties have had positive West Nile virus encephalitis in horses or mules: Allen, Anderson, Atchison, Barber, Barton, Bourbon, Brown, Butler, Chase, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Cheyenne, Clark, Clay, Cloud, Coffey, Comanche, Cowley, Crawford, Decatur, Dickinson, Doniphan, Douglas, Edwards, Elk, Ellis, Ellsworth, Finney, Ford, Franklin, Gove, Graham, Grant, Gray, Greeley, Greenwood, Hamilton, Harper, Haskell, Hodgeman, Jackson, Jefferson, Jewell, Johnson, Kearny, Kingman, Kiowa, Labette, Lane, Leavenworth, Lincoln, Linn, Logan, Lyon, Marion, Meade, Mitchell, Montgomery, Morris, Morton, McPherson, Nemaha, Neosho, Ness, Norton, Osage, Osborne, Ottawa, Pawnee, Phillips,  Pottawatomie, Pratt, Rawlins, Reno, Republic, Rice, Riley, Rush, Russell, Saline, Scott, Sedgwick, Seward, Shawnee, Sherman, Smith, Stafford, Stevens, Sumner, Thomas, Wabaunsee, Wallace, Washington, Wichita, Wilson,  Woodson, and Wyandotte.

• Mosquitoes are being collected from the following counties: Riley, Barton, Cowley, Crawford, Finney, Geary, Johnson, Leavenworth, Lincoln, Saline, Sedgwick, Shawnee, and Wyandotte. Mosquitoes are been identified and pools of 50 of the same species are submitted for WNV analysis.

		21 Mosquito pools have tested positive in Barton, Finney, Geary, Lincoln, Riley and Shawnee counties.

• Blood sampling from selected, established small chicken flocks has begun;  samples from Johnson, Riley, Saline, and Crawford counties were obtained. Positive results have been obtained from Cowley and Barton counties (marked in darker color on map).
