Converting Images to Other Formats:

IrfanView can convert from almost any format to most other formats. This can be accomplished in two ways, either a single file at a time, or in batch mode.

Converting a single file

  1. Open IrfanView, then open the desired file (or double click on the file to open it).

  2. Choose File -> Save As (or press S)

  3. Pull down the "Save As Type" dropdown box, and choose the desired format.

    Save As window

  4. Name your picture, and you're done.

Batch conversions

  1. Start Irfanview

  2. Choose File -> Batch Conversion/Rename (or press B).

  3. A window will open with a number of options

  4. Select the folder you want.

  5. Select the files you want. Use ctrl and shift keys, or draw a box around the files to select multiple files. Alternatively, use the "Add All" button. Beware that if you choose "Add All" with the include subdirectories option checked, all files in all subdirectories will be included also.

    Choosing the right files

  6. Choose the file type from the dropdown box.

  7. Choose your destination directory. Use the "Use this directory as output" button to put the new files in the same folder you're currently working in. As these are different file types, the originals won't be overwritten.

  8. Click "Start" to convert the files to the desired format.

  9. The "Advanced Options" button allows you to perform such options as cropping, resizing, changing color depth, flipping rotating, sharpening, and deleting the original files. These options are fairly self explanatory, and won't be covered here.
