Thermometers are devices used to measure
temperature. They come in many different types and are grouped
by their construction. The most familiar are the liquid-in-glass
(such as a mercury thermometer) and electrical (such as the digital
thermometers).
The picture on the left shows a liquid-in-glass thermometer.
The scale on a thermometer might also vary. In the United
States, we usually see temperature in degrees Fahrenheit. Most
countries around the world use the Celsius scale and see temperatures
in degrees centigrade. Zero on the centigrade scale equals 32 on
the Fahrenheit scale.
