Tarkio

Back Next

The purple areas of the map show where this variety is best adapted.
Tarkio- This is a medium height, medium-early maturing variety from Westbred.  It has good tolerance to stripe rust, powdery mildew, soil borne mosaic, and speckled leaf blotch.  It is moderately resistant to intermediate to tan spot. Leaf rust comes in late on Tarkio.  It has high yield potential, but tends to have low test weights and it has below average baking quality. Thus, it is used in blends in north central and northeast Kansas.
