| Diseases and insects can attack wheat grown in any part of Kansas. They can often make
the difference between a good yield and a mediocre yield. In rare
instances, they can almost wipe out a crop.
Wheat Field Days are a great opportunity to emphasize two things about some important wheat diseases and insects. The first is diagnosis of the problem. It's the first step toward better management and reduced losses. We've arranged a short picture tour of some of the most important pests for you. The second is control using resistant varieties. If you would like to browse the latest ratings of variety resistance, click on this link: Wheat Variety Disease & Insect Ratings 2006 (requires free Adobe Acrobat reader).
