Summer/Intersession/Mid-Semester Courses |
|
If you want to graduate faster, the strategy is to plan your professional courses (i.e., HN or KIN) for the Fall and Spring semesters and take the other ones in the summer and intersession periods. Some students take summer courses at Kansas community colleges because it is more convenient for them (see section on Off-Campus classes). Sometimes several KIN courses are taught in the summer, depending on student demand and faculty availability. In contrast, relatively few HN courses are taught during this time. If you are interested ask you KIN or HN advisor whether they expect any of their courses to be offered. Students often overlook intersession courses as a means to satisfy some curriculum requirements. Intersession courses are short courses lasting a few weeks between semester or summer sessions. They are offered through the Division of Continuing Education (532-5566) (at three different times: Winter (early January), Spring (mid May - early June), and Summer (August). You can get a listing of intersession course offerings at the College Court Building, rm 131, usually around April, July, and November. Also you can conveniently view a listing online at a website provided by the Division of Continuing Education. Examples of previously-offered intersession courses that can count towards you curriculum include: MUSIC 310 (2) History of Musical Instruments, MUSIC 424 (2) Jazz in Kansas City and the Southwest, and CIS 101-104 Information Technology. Course offerings during each intersession period are dependent on faculty availability and student demand. Mid-Semester Courses. If you want to pick up a KSU course mid-semester the Division of Continuing Education offers evening courses during each semester in two 8-week blocks of time. The listing of DCE evening courses can be accessed at: http://www.dce.k-state.edu/courses/eveningcollege/courses.shtml |
