You are also eligible to apply for additional scholarships offered by the university, professional societies, honor societies, or other sources. Several are described below. Since they change from year to year (deadline date, contact person, etc), this fact sheet just lists those that "usually" are available and where you can look for notices. Professional Associations: If you are working towards your registered dietitian (R.D.) credential you are eligible to apply for dietetic scholarships. Organizations providing scholarships include the Kansas Nutrition Council, The American Dietetic Association, and the Kansas City Dietetic Association. Often notices for these scholarships are posted on the Dietetics bulletin board (next to JU 112) or Nutrition & Kinesiology bulletin board (next to JU 143C) late fall or early spring. College of Human Ecology. The College of Human Ecology has a website that lists the application protocol as well as specialty scholarships. At: Scholarships. College of Arts and Sciences. A&S also has a very nice web site listing scholarship resources at http://www.ksu.edu/artsci/scholarship/ Honor societies: One of the advantages of joining an honor society is that you are eligible to apply for their scholarships. Human Ecology honor societies include Phi Upsilon Omicron and Kappa Omicron Nu (see bulletin board next to JU 124). You may also qualify for membership in KSU chapters of honor societies such as Phi Kappa Phi. Obtain application information from your honor society chapter. Minority and non-traditional students: If you are part of a minority group (Black, Hispanic, Asian, American Indian or Mexican American) you should apply for the Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF). If you are over the age of 25, or a single parent - consider applying for the Mary Todd Burk scholarship (listed in the Human Ecology web site above). Study abroad. There are several scholarships in support of students studying abroad. Contact the Office of International Programs at 532-5990. Workships: A limited number of workships (work for pay) are available in the College of Human Ecology. Students who obtain workships may perform clerical duties in the Dean's office or other duties. Apply at the Justin Hall reception desk. The U.S. Department of Education has two web sites that can help you find money for college: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ and http://www.studentaid.ed.gov Other financial aid, including loans and student employment, is coordinated through the KSU Office of Student Financial Assistance in 104 Fairchild Hall. |
