Pre-Health Professions (e.g., pre-med,  pre-physical therapy, etc.)

Nutrition & Kinesiology students who are interested in applying to health professions programs should consult advisors in the Health Professions Advising Office in the College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office in 113 Eisenhower Hall.  You should make contact with these advisors as soon as you know you are pre-health so that you are aware of the prerequisites and requirements for your professional program (the sooner the better).

Examples of pre-health professions are: clinical laboratory science (medical technology), pre-dentistry, pre-medicine, pre-optometry, pre-veterinary medicine, pre-pharmacy, pre-nursing, pre-physical therapy, pre-occupational therapy, pre-respiratory care, pre-health information management, and pre-physician assistant.

The College of Arts & Sciences has listed information regarding the Pre-Health Professions Program (including links to suggested courses at:  KSU Pre-Health Professions Program.  Here are the direct links to a few of the more common ones that NUKIN majors pursue:

Pre-Medicine
Pre-Physical Therapy
Pre-Physician's Assistant
Pre-Nursing
Pre-Chiropractic Medicine

You can also go to the A&S Deans Office (Eisenhower 113) to pick up a more detailed sheet suggesting courses for each program.

If you have decided on pursuing a health career you should formally add the appropriate option to your curriculum. Any freshman may declare a pre-health option. Continuing students must achieve a 2.75 GPA or higher (at K-State and all courses attempted at colleges or universities) to declare and stay in a pre-health option. Have the A&S Dean’s Office complete a curriculum change form that adds the appropriate option. You would then have three advisors: one each in KIN, HN and pre-health (however only the HN advisor would be your "primary" advisor).

The online Occupational Outlook Handbook (provided by the U.S. Dept. Labor) has provided some helpful descriptions of various health professions including nature of the work, job outlook, training, earnings, and working conditions at (you'll need to scroll down this site):  http://www.bls.gov/oco/oco1002.htm .  Here are the direct links:
