Nutrition & Kinesiology (NUKIN)
Kansas State University

Your Last Year- Checklist

This section is written for last year seniors in Nutrition & Kinesiology who have to complete their university requirements and prepare for life after graduation. Usually NUKIN majors either search for jobs, or apply for post-graduate training such as graduate school, professional school, or a dietetic internship. The bullet checklist below will help you prepare for this transition.

  • You must file an Application for Graduation Clearance in both Dean's Offices (A&S - Eisenhower 113; HE - Justin 119). This is usually done the first few weeks of the semester or summer that you plan to graduate. The deadlines are listed in the KSU Academic Calendar.

  • Commencement Ceremonies.  You are not requirement to go through commencement ceremonies to get both B.S. degrees (although you still have to fill out both applications for graduation clearance described above). You can go through commencement ceremonies for both colleges if you wish, or just one, or neither!

  • "Walk Through".  Prospective summer (August) graduates may participate in May Commencement immediately preceding the summer term in which degree requirements will be completed ("Walk Through"), or may participate in the December Commencement immediately following the summer term in which degree requirements were completed.  To be considered a "prospective summer graduate," students must present a feasible plan for enrollment in no more than nine credit hours or a standard internship to complete final degree requirements for summer graduation.  Interested students should contact the Deans Offices (Human Ecology; Arts & Sciences) to fill out the necessary paperwork.

  • If you are an Honors student, complete the Honors Program requirements.

  • Finish Incompletes and take care of Delinquencies (if you have any).

  • Avoid taking Off-Campus courses your last semester or summer.  It takes time to forward transcripts to KSU, and this may delay your graduation. Also be aware of the university rule that the last 20 of your 30 hours must be K-State resident hours.

  • Prepare a Resume if you have not done so already. This will be very helpful to faculty who write letters of recommendation for you.

  • Job Search.  If you plan to search for a job, attend workshops on resume writing, interview skills, and job search strategies sponsored by K-State's Career and employment Services (CES) in Holtz Hall. Read the section on Career & Employment Services.

  • Take the GRE exam if there is any possibility that you will go to Graduate School.  Some dietetic internships also require the GRE exam. See section on Grad School.

  • ADA Internships. If you plan to apply for ADA Internships which begin in the Fall you need to start in January (or before) to get together applications, letters of R, transcripts, etc. Usually students are responsible for getting together the whole package for each internship that they apply for. Make sure you have completed the extra courses needed for this credential. Read NUKIN section on Becoming a Registered Dietitian.
