HRIMD and HN Distance Courses - Instructions for On-Campus Students

Overview:  Several HN and HRIMD courses have been offered "by distance" through printed course materials, audiotapes, videotapes, CD-ROM, television, TELENET 2, and the web. Distance course offerings vary each semester, but when they are scheduled to be taught they are usually listed in the online KSU Course Schedule as "Z" sections at facility "distance", or search for them at the Division of Continuing Education Website as described below. The DCE website will provide you with information on the course description, requirements, registration, and cost.

Off-campus students are given preference in enrolling in these courses (over on-campus students), but on-campus students may be considered if they have a special situation (e.g. course conflict).  Some courses such as HN 413 Science of Food may NOT be taken by distance if students live within a reasonable driving distance from campus - no exceptions. In contrast HN 132 and HN 400 are relatively easy to get into so long as there are openings available.  HN and HRIMD courses that have been taught by distance include:

Instructions for Enrolling in K-State’s Distance Courses (on-campus students):  Go to http://www.dce.k-state.edu/courses/  to get the search page for available courses. Click on the check boxes for the correct semester and year. Then click on the Search button to bring up a list of all K-State distance courses. If you just need to take HRIMD and/or HN courses, you can narrow the search by also choosing "Human Ecology."

After the list of available courses appears, click on the name of the course that you want to enroll in. It may be helpful to print the information page that appears next since you may want to refer to some of this information later.  Please note the date before which on-campus students may not enroll in certain courses.  Enrollment requests received before that date will be rejected.

Choose your credit option (undergraduate for most distance students), and click on the "Register Now" button. Follow the instructions to either add more courses or continue with the registration process.

If you are enrolling in a course that requires approval from Karla Girard, the Dietetics distance program coordinator, she will automatically be notified by email.  You do not need to contact her directly unless you don't hear back from her within a week.  She will let DCE know whether or not your enrollment is approved and copy the email to you.  After your enrollment is processed you will receive an email from DCE explaining how to start the course.  You will be billed for the tuition and fees.

Please e-mail Karla Girard at kgirard@ksu.edu  if you have any questions about enrolling.
