Crisis Situations

Sometimes students need professional help to deal with personal and emotional concerns. The telephone numbers below may be useful:

For assistance with personal problems, test anxiety, vocational decision making, and study skills:

For critical emotional problems or severe physical reactions to stress:

  • Lafene Student Health Center, (1105 Sunset Ave.) 532-6544

  • Mercy Health Center (1823 College Ave) Emergency room, 776-2800

  • Pawnee Mental Health, 587-4300

Absence notification:

  • Non-emergency Student Absence Policy. The student is responsible for contacting his or her instructor(s) when he or she is going to miss or has missed class.

  • Emergency Student Absence Policy (serious illness, or death or serious illness of a close family member, which threatens the student's academic progress). The student is responsible for contacting the Dean's office (e.g., Human Ecology, or Arts & Sciences). The College of Human Ecology (785-532-5500) notifies instructors and advisers of student absences when requested. Notification does not imply an "excused absence".

For consultation about appropriate resources for specific problem situations:

  • Dean of Student Life Office, 102 Holton Hall, 8:00am to 5:00pm, 532-6432.
