Career & Employment Services

You are encouraged to look at job listings early - even your very first year at KSU, so that you can see what types of jobs are available and where they are located.

JOB LISTINGS appear on several bulletin boards on campus including the Kinesiology bulletin board in the Natatorium, and the Nutrition and Kinesiology bulletin board near JU 143 in Justin Hall.  These bulletin boards also serve as a communication center for students in this major, keeping you informed of career fairs and other related campus events.

For part-time employment opportunities while you are attending KSU, check the part-time job board in the K-State Student Union (across from the Food Court). These listings are for part-time jobs, both on- and off-campus. Part-time jobs may also be accessed online through the Career & Employment Services homepage.  For other summer, intern, and/or full-time positions, you can check out WILDCAT WORKS, the computerized job vacancy bulletin maintained by Career and Employment Services.

You should also familiarize yourself with K-State's Career and Employment Services (CES) in Holtz Hall (532-6506). CES offers services and resources to assist students and alumni in successfully locating employment (including full-time, summer, and part-time employment, plus internships and cooperative education opportunities). Throughout the school year, CES staff members present workshops on resume writing, job search strategies (including use of the Web), and interview skills/technique. Watch for notices posted on the Nutrition and Exercise bulletin board.

If you register with CES, you may upload your resume on the WWW which will be downloaded on the CES database. Each year, approximately 1000 employers from throughout the United States request searches of the CES database; resumes of those students who match requested qualifications will then be forwarded to the employers by CES. Other benefits of registration include access to the on-campus interviewing process (approximately 250 employers come to campus each year to interview) and to WILDCAT WORKS, the computerized job vacancy bulletin located on the CES homepage.   Students registered with CES also receive a Job Search Manual and Job Choices magazine as well as e-mail updates and job information from CES staff.

Also included on the CES homepage are a list of CES services and events, WWW registration information, links to employer and job sites, information regarding on-campus interviewing, and other important career-related information.

Some special events sponsored by CES or coordinated in conjunction with other campus departments include: All-University Career Fair (over 300 employers come to campus to network with prospective employees); the Part-Time Opportunity Fair (non-profit agencies come to K-State to recruit volunteers); and Mock Interview clinics (professional recruiters from various business & industry and human services organizations come to K-State to interview students and offer a constructive critique of the students' interview performance).

If your job search is city-specific, you might check out the online job listings for the Chamber of Commerce for that city; or its local newspapers.
