B.S. in Athletic Training

Somewhat related to the Nutrition & Kinesiology curriculum - but a different program - is the new B.S. degree in Athletic Training (approved May 2003).  Athletic training is the art and science of treating athletic injuries. Athletic trainers are proficient in the prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries; first aid and emergency care; counseling and education of athletes; and administration of athletic training programs.

For more information on this program refer to the Nutrition Department's Athletic Training  web site. or the KSU catalog webpage on Athletic Training, or contact Shawna Jordan, M.S., A.T.C. (Program Director), Kansas State University, Justin 241,  785-532-0151, or jordan@ksu.edu

For general information, the University of North Carolina-Wilmington has a nice website describing "What can I do with a major in Athletic Training".

As a somewhat related option not Athletic Training but sports related)- students can also get their "Coaching Endorsement" through the College of Education.  It is open to students who plan to coach at the high school level after graduation.  Students do not need a degree in Education to obtain this.  At this point in writing it requires 10 credits including:  EDSEC 250 (3) Scientific Principles of Coaching, HN 320 (3) Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries, EDSEC 587 (2) Supervised Practicum for Athletic Coaches, and one coaching and officiating class.  For more information consult the K-State Undergraduate catalog for info on Coaching Endorsement .
