Nitrogen deficiency

photo 44a

Nitrogen deficiency in wheat occurs when there is not enough nitrogen in the soil to supply the needs of the crop. Farmers apply nitrogen fertilizer to the soil because they know the crop requires more nitrogen than the soil can supply. Sometimes no fertilizer or not enough fertilizer is applied and the plants show deficiency symptoms.

This is an excellent example of nitrogen deficiency. Plants are often stunted and have a light green to yellowish appearance.

In this picture you can see several rows on the left that are stunted and yellow. These are nitrogen deficient. The rows on the right are larger and darker green. They aren’t showing deficiency symptoms
