How to Submit a Suspect Soybean Rust Sample

If you have a suspect soybean rust sample you may:

  1. Take a sample to your local County Extension Office where the agent can submit the sample using PDIS for diagnosis.

  2. Or, you can submit the soybean leaf sample directly to:

Kansas State University Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab
Department of Plant Pathology
4032 Throckmorton Hall
Manhattan, KS 66506-5504

There is no fee for 2006 soybean rust testing.
The soybean rust testing is free in 2006 courtesy of the Kansas Soybean Commission

However, fees for all other testing still apply.

If you are sending a sample it must meet the following
requirements:

  1. Send up to 20 leaves with suspect symptoms.
  2. Leaves should be placed between two dry paper towels and lay flat.
  3. The sample should be packaged in 2 sealed, ziplock  bags.  The bags should be clearly labeled using a permanent marker providing us with the host, date, County where sample was collected, grower’s name, phone number, and field ID.
  4. The package should be mailed no later than Wednesday for the week so that it arrives in the lab fresh and before the weekend.
