Sedgwick County Extension Council

Sedgwick County is a multi-agent county in south-central Kansas. It has a diversified urban, suburban and rural population of over 450,000. Wichita is the county seat of Sedgwick County which also has 20 other small cities. The professional staff includes 13 agents of which five are in family and consumer sciences.

Primary Area of Responsibility: Family and Consumer Sciences - Family Life and Family Resource Management

Location: Sedgwick County, Wichita, Kansas

APPLICATION DATE: Screening of applications for this position will begin November 12, 2007 and continue until the position is filled. This position is available on or after December 12, 2007. The starting date is negotiable.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Extension Councils and extension agents have the responsibility to complete needs assessments and identify major educational priorities of the county within the K-State Research and Extension Core Mission Themes:
  2. Provide primary leadership in the development, dissemination and implementation of research-based educational programs to support successful families and the systems that serve them in communities. Programs will include but are not limited to: family life, parenting, and financial and resource management.
  3. Provide leadership for 4-H youth development related to family and consumer sciences programming.
  4. Jointly share responsibility in community programming (10% of time) around issues involving leadership development, community improvement, local government, community health and other forms of community economic development.
  5. Working with county citizens and staff of cooperating organizations, implement educational programs developed in collaboration with area and state extension specialists, other state extension systems and USDA.
  6. Through community coalitions and utilizing appropriate interdisciplinary knowledge, implement educational processes that make communities more supportive of their citizens.
  7. Develop and implement volunteer recruitment, training and management systems.
  8. With program development committees and area and state specialists, collect evidence on program effectiveness for the purpose of program improvement, reporting and marketing.
  9. This position requires travel connected with official duties, including: attendance at night and weekend meetings, participation in out-of-county events, access to a personal vehicle, and ability to obtain/maintain a valid Kansas Driver’s License.
