POSITION: Project Coordinator, Community Environmental Planning
(Term appointment ending September 30, 2006. Subsequent annual appointment subject to the availability of funding and the need for these services.)

LOCATION: K-State Research and Extension, Community Development / PRIDE Program, Manhattan, Kansas

APPLICATION DATE: Review of applications will begin January 4, 2006, and continue until a suitable candidate is found. This position is available on or before January 15, 2006.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide leadership in organizing and facilitating effective community engagement in three pilot communities.
• Coordinator will provide guidance to citizen groups forming for the purpose of planning and implementing water quality and community/environmental planning and improvement.
• Help community members find information and assistance to support their efforts.
• Promote citizen participation in community issue identification and resolution.
• Help community leaders better understand the connection between natural resources and quality of life and economic vitality.
• Collaborate through program efforts with Kansas Department of Health and Environment, and state, regional and local development agencies and organizations.
• Cooperate with other specialist in development of training programs, support materials, and information for use by extension agents.
• Participate in and contribute to the functioning and overall efforts of Research and Extension.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Community Planning and Development, Public Administration, Environmental Resources Management or a field closely related to the project goals.
• Training or demonstrated ability in applying a community development process to the identification and planning for community planning and environmental resource development.
• Demonstrated ability in facilitating community groups, and designing, promoting, implementing and evaluating community development education programs.
• Understanding of rural issues.
• Success in working with a wide range of clientele and organizations.
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Ability to work with diverse and multi-cultural audiences.

SALARY: Salary commensurate with training and experience.
