Released: March 12, 2008 K-States Ag Fest Activities For Campus, Community Slated April 7-11 MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State University will host its annual Ag Fest on the Manhattan campus April 7-11. Ag Fest is a weeklong celebration for campus and the community, sponsored by the K-State College of Agriculture Student Council.
Major supporters for this years Ag Fest include Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., AgCareers.com, Kansas Farm Bureau and B104.7 Radio, said Ag Fest Committee Co-Chair Mark Maynard. Jacob Gouldie, a junior in agronomy, is the other committee co-chair. The celebration begins the evening of Monday, April 7 with a panel discussion focusing on the pros and cons of ethanol production. Panel members participating in the discussion, which will be held in Forum Hall in the K-State Union, will include a representative of ICM, Inc., a Colwich, Kan., ethanol producer, Ted Schroeder, K-State professor of agricultural economics, Brad Johnson, K-State associate professor of animal science, and a representative of the agronomic industry. The panel discussion is sponsored by Frontier Farm Credit. On Tuesday, April 8, an agricultural awareness program for area elementary students will be held in Weber Arena. The activities are open to students in kindergarten through third grade. On April 9, K-State students will have the opportunity to compete in the Cowboy Olympics in Weber Arena at 7:00 p.m. The Cowboy Olympics competition, which is hosted by the K-State Rodeo Club, consists of teams of four trying their hand at farm activities such as fence building and hay stacking. On April 10, a lunchtime barbecue on the lawn of Weber Hall will be co-sponsored by Alpha Gamma Rho and FarmHouse fraternities, and Cargill. In case of inclement weather, the barbecue will be held indoors in Weber Arena. The weeks activities will end April 11, with the Ag For a Cure Benefit Concert at 8:00 p.m. in Weber Arena, featuring Bleu Edmondson and the Randy Rogers Band.
