Well-Known Photographer, Coach To Highlight K-State Leadership Conference

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Baby Boomers, Generation X and Millennials – three generations living and working together in a complex world. Who are they? What values do they share? How do their expectations and behaviors differ? And, can they interact and collaborate more effectively on teams in the workplace, classroom and community?

Information on these topics and more will be available at the 2007 Kansas State University Leadership Seminar March 29 at the K-State Student Union, Manhattan, Kan. Titled “Intergenerational Leadership: Bridging the Gap Between Generations,” the professional development seminar will focus on learning to identify the differences in leadership style related to age and building the skills (facilitative leadership) to work successfully across generational differences, said Robert Wilson, associate Kansas State University Research and Extension specialist speaking for the conference planning committee.

Keynote speaker for the 2007 seminar is Ron Prince, head football coach at K-State. Prince, who recently completed his first year as the university’s head coach, is among the youngest NCAA Division I-A head football coaches. Last fall he teamed with Susan Scott, director of leadership studies at the University, to teach "Current Topics in Leadership.”

Completing the program for the seminar are:

* Tom Roberts, assistant dean, recruitment and leadership development, Kansas State College of Engineering, who will present an overview of issues and challenges related to intergenerational leadership.

* Jim Richardson, a National Geographic Society photographer, who is widely recognized for his photographic study Cuba, Kan. Richardson will feature these and other photographs to illustrate community and leadership in Kansas and around the world.

During the luncheon (which is included in registration), Tom Roberts will follow up with additional perspectives on generational leadership.

To bring the topics addressed in the morning sessions together, Jeffrey Cufaude, from the Idea Architects, Inc., will offer tips for building capacity with an appreciation for diverse perspectives, community and personal initiative.

In this session, Cufaude will explore core beliefs; practices and tools facilitators can use to help individuals and organizations produce great results.

The conference will begin at 9 a.m. and adjourn at 4 p.m. Registration for the seminar, which includes lunch, refreshments and a conference packet, is $50 (on or before March 1), and $60 thereafter. Early registration is recommended, as the conference is expected to fill quickly. Registration and more information are available online at http://www.dce.ksu.edu/conf/leadershipseminar.

The K-State Leadership Seminar is the 11th in a series and is sponsored by various campus and community entities, including K-State Research and Extension, the K-State Alumni Association, K-State Libraries, Intercollegiate Athletics, the Manhattan area Chamber of Commerce, Kansas Leadership Forum, and the Huck Boyd Institute for Rural Development.
