K-State’s Ag Fest Offers Activities for Campus, Community

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State University will host its annual Ag Fest April 10-13. Ag Fest is a weeklong celebration held on the Manhattan campus and is sponsored by the university’s College of Agriculture Student Council.

K-State Ag Council to Host “Ag for a Cure Benefit Concert” at Annual Ag Fest

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State University’s College of Agriculture Student Council will host the “Ag for a Cure Benefit Concert” on April 12 at 8 p.m. in Weber Arena featuring Jason Boland and the Stragglers with Pete Gile.

The event will be held in conjunction with K-State’s annual Ag Fest celebration and all proceeds will go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Platinum sponsors for the concert are RB Outpost, AgCareers.com, Kansas Farm Bureau, B104.7 Hot Country, Pioneer Hi-Bred, Cargill, and the
K-State Student Government Association.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door and can be purchased from any College of Agriculture Student Council representative or at the following Manhattan businesses: RB Outpost, Varney’s K-State Place in Town Center Mall, Varney’s in Aggieville and the K-State Student Union Bookstore.

Ag Fest will begin in the morning on April 10 with an agricultural awareness program for area elementary school students in Weber Arena. At 6 p.m., Ron Hanson, professor and agribusiness program director from the University of Nebraska, will speak on the topic of “Preserving the Legacy of Family Farms in Kansas” in Forum Hall at the K-State Student Union. It is open to the public and admission is free. The lecture and refreshments following are sponsored by Frontier Farm Credit.

K-State students will compete in the Cowboy Olympics on April 11 at 8 p.m. in Weber Arena. Cowboy Olympics competition consists of several typical farm activities, such as hay stacking and fence building, in which teams of four compete against each other to finish in the shortest time. Cargill Meat Solutions will provide awards.

Also in Weber Arena, on April 12, the Agriculture Student Council will host the “Ag for a Cure Benefit Concert” featuring Jason Boland and the Stragglers with special guest Pete Gile. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door and can be purchased from any College of Agriculture Student Council representative or at the following Manhattan businesses: RB Outpost, Varney’s K-State Place in Town Center Mall, Varney’s in Aggieville and the K-State Student Union Bookstore.

All profits from the concert will go to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Ag Fest will end with a free BBQ sponsored by the Alpha Gamma Rho and FarmHouse fraternities and Cargill Meat Solutions on April 13 from 11:00-1:00 p.m. on the Weber Hall lawn.
