Released: March 13, 2007 King Ranch Exec to Highlight Kansas Cattle $en$e Meeting WAKEENEY, Kan. – Presentations by the executive director of one of the most well- known ranches in the United States and another by a chef will highlight a March 22 meeting on successful beef production and ranching. Barry Dunn, executive director of the King Ranch Institute for Ranch Management and Chef Victor Matthews of Colorados Black Bear Restaurant will be featured speakers at the Cattle $en$e meeting, scheduled for 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The meeting, sponsored by Kansas State University Research and Extension and supported by several co-sponsors, will be held at the Trego County Fairgrounds in Wakeeney. It will include several presentations on a balanced approach to ranching: • Key Indicators of Successful Ranching: A Balanced Approach – Barry Dunn, King Ranch; • Wastewater Runoff Demon – Stacie Edgett-Minson, K-State Research and Extension; • Pasture Rental Rates and Cost-Returns for the Breeding Season – Kevin Dhuyvetter, K-State; • Getting Cows Ready for the Breeding Season – Twig Marston, K-State; • Cattle Market Outlook – Jim Mintert, K-State; and • Whats the Beef: A Chefs Perspective – Victor Matthews, Black Bear Restaurant. The registration fee, which includes a steak supper, is $10, if paid by March 16, and $15, if paid after that date or at the door.
