Released: February 22, 2006 Kansas Sheep Producer, Youth Day Slated for March 11 in Manhattan MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas Sheep Day will be March 11 in Weber Hall on the Kansas State University campus in Manhattan. The day consists of both a producer program and a youth program, which will run concurrently. The day will also include Kansas Sheep Ambassador introductions and the Kansas Sheep Association business meeting. The producer program will begin with registration at 8 a.m. and a general session at 9 a.m. Producer program topics and presenters will include: * Parasite control strategies -D.G. Pugh, Fort Dodge Animal Health, Waverly, Ala. * Successful Sheep Family Business Transitions - Rodney Jones, agricultural economist, K-State Research and Extension * Prevention of Sheep Predation - Charles Lee, wildlife specialist, K-State Research and Extension * Vaccination Programs to Maximize Health in Your Flock – D.G. Pugh * Update on Four Sheep ID Pilot Projects – Cliff Spaeth, sheep specialist, K-State Research and Extension Lunch will be served on-site and feature a drawing for door prizes. The Sheep Day Youth Program will begin in Weber Arena with registration at 8:30 a.m. and the programs start at 9:15 a.m. Topics to be covered will include feeding and management of the lamb project, proper selection and evaluation, and basic fitting and showing. A highlight of the event will be the drawing for free show lambs and other prizes, said Julie Voge youth day coordinator and animal scientist with K-State Research and Extension.
