Released: January 21, 2005 Swine Profitability Conference Slated for Feb. 1 in Manhattan--Voice of KC Chiefs to Be Guest Speaker MANHATTAN, Kan. – The 2005 Swine Profitability Conference at Kansas State University will be Feb. 1 in Manhattan at the K-State Unions Forum Hall. The conference – sponsored by K-State Research and Extension and the Department of Animal Sciences and Industry, along with the Kansas Pork Association – will feature speakers on production management, marketing, and business decisions related to capital investment and profitability, said K-State swine specialist Jim Nelssen. The day starts with coffee and doughnuts at 9:15 a.m. The program schedule runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes breaks and lunch. The registration fee is $25 if paid by Jan. 25 and $50 after that. The fee covers all conference meals and materials. The presentations and speakers will include: * Keys to Keeping Producer Groups Successful (The Jack and Pat Anderson Lecture in Swine Health Management) - Peter Sherlock, DVM, Washington Veterinary Clinic. * How the Canadians are Achieving High Sow Productivity - Frank Aherne, Alberta Pig Company. * What Impact Will the New Triumph Food Pork Plant Have on Flow of Pigs to Midwestern Markets? - Kevin Dhuyvetter, K-State Research and Extension. * What We Learned During the Past Two Years About the Pork Sector - Mark Greenwood, Ag Star Financial Services. * Putting Together a Winning Team - Mitch Holthus, Voice of the Kansas City Chiefs.
