Leadership Roundtable Scheduled

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The first-ever Kansas Leadership Forum (KLF) Leadership Roundtable will be held Friday, April 23 in the afternoon to complement the 8th Annual K-State Leadership Seminar planned for 9:00 to noon on the same day, said Ron Wilson, director of the Huck Boyd National Institute for Rural Development and Roundtable coordinator.

“Our intent is to provide a full day of leadership dialog and ideas that will help strengthen the capacity of state and local leadership development programs and help build a stronger network among leadership programs in the state,” Wilson said.

The Leadership Seminar will feature Margaret Wheatley, who is considered one of the nation’s leading thinkers about community development and service. She will speak on “Community and Leadership: A Conversation with Margaret Wheatley.”

The seminar will be held in Forum Hall at the Kansas State University Student Union.

The Leadership Roundtable will convene at 1:15 p.m. in the Hansen Little Theatre, which also is located in the Union. Wilson said each Leadership Program representative will answer three questions:

1.How is our program unique?

2. How do we measure success?

3. What is one idea we utilize that could be useful to other programs?

The first of two panel discussions will focus on state leadership initiatives with panelists Roger Fingland, chair, Board of Trustees, Leadership Kansas; Jack Lindquist, president, Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership Program (KARL); Marsha Sheahan, representing Leadership Greater Topeka and the Kansas Community Leadership Initiative; and Judy Willingham, representing the Kansas Environmental Leadership Program. Steve Coen, vice president of administration of the Kansas Health Foundation, will serve as moderator.

The second panel discussion will focus on leadership education delivery to targeted audiences with Barbara Carswell, representing the Capitol Federal corporate leadership program; Sharolyn Dugger, representing the Hispanic Leadership Academy; Jennifer Burch, representing Leadership McPherson youth leadership programs; and Lynda Wilkinson, representing a regional leadership program with Southeast Kansas, Inc. Greg Meissen, representing the Self-Help Network at Wichita State University, will serve as moderator.

“The panel presentations will be followed by a group discussion on key lessons to be learned for leadership programs and ‘Ah-Ha’ moments,” Wilson said.

The cost to attend the 8th Annual K-State Leadership Seminar and Leadership Roundtable for KLF members is $30 and, for non-members, $35. The fee includes registration, a lunch card that can be redeemed in the Student Union, Seminar packet and refreshments. Early registration is advisable, as space is limited. The deadline for registration is April 16. For more information, call the Huck Boyd Institute at 785-532-7890 or check the KLF website: www.kansasleadershipforum.com .
