K-State Ag Fest ‘04: Making the Connection …

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas State University will kick off its annual Ag Fest March 30 on the campus in Manhattan. The College of Agriculture Student Council organizes the event, which runs through April 2 and is open to the public.

This year’s theme is, “Making the Connection…Uniting Producers, Policy Makers & Consumers World-Wide.” The week’s free festivities include meals, prominent speakers and entertainment.

Kansas Secretary of Agriculture, Adrian Polansky, will begin the week March 30 by speaking on current events and hot topics in the agricultural industry in Umberger Hall, Room 105 at 6 p.m. Following his presentation, a free meal will be served in the Weber Hall lobby, with Excel Sterling Silver® Premium Meats providing the meat.

The KSU Rodeo Club will sponsor the Cowboy Olympics March 31 at 8:30 p.m. in Weber Arena. Competitors will test their skills in events such as hay-bale stacking and driving steel posts into the ground. Spectators are welcome.

G. Allen Andreas, chairman and chief executive officer of the Archer Daniels Midland Co. in Decatur, Ill., has been invited to speak April 1, at 7 p.m. Andreas will discuss business ethics and operating in a global market in the Main Ballroom of the K-State Student Union.

To complete the week, Alpha Gamma Rho and FarmHouse fraternities will host a barbeque on April 2, starting at 11:30 a.m. on the lawn in front of Call Hall and Weber Hall. Part of the meal will be provided by Excel Sterling Silver ® Premium Meats. In case of rain the meal will be held in Weber Arena.
