Cattlemen’s Seedstock Conference Slated Feb. 10 in Phillipsburg

PHILLIPSBURG, Kan. – The annual Cattlemen’s Seedstock Showcase and Conference will be held Feb. 10 at the Phillips County Fairgrounds in Phillipsburg.

The conference and trade show features breeding stock displays from progressive seedstock producers throughout the region, said Bob Broweleit, a K-State Research and Extension agriculture agent in Phillips County. This is the third year this conference has been held.

"This is an excellent opportunity [for ranchers] to make contact with seedstock producers and see what they have to offer their operation," Broweleit said.

The conference is free, and lunch is provided by the event’s exhibitors.

Among the conference’s featured speakers:

* Dwayne Rice, a range management specialist with the Natural Resource Conservation Service in Kansas;

* Patrick Reece, a rangeland ecologist with the University of Nebraska’s Panhandle Research and Extension Center;

* Craig Iwanski, co-owner of Central Veterinary Services in Stockton, Kan. who specializes in beef production medicine and reproduction;

* Sandy Johnson, a livestock specialist with K-State Research and Extension, who has conducted research regarding estrous synchronization and cow-calf management.

For more information, interested persons should call the Phillips County Extension office at 785-543-6845. More information on beef production is available on the World Wide Web at http://www.oznet.ksu.edu/dp_ansi/nletter/beeftips.htm.
