Released: January 24, 2003 Sandyland Field To Host Winter Field Day ST. JOHN, Kan. – Something for cattle and grain producers alike will be offered at the Sandyland Winter Field Day near St. John on Feb. 7. Topics ranging from "Corn-Grain Sorghum Comparisons" to "Crabgrass Grazing Systems" will be discussed, said Vic Martin, agronomist-in-charge of the Sandyland Experiment Field. Richard Nelson, an agronomist with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is a recognized authority on turning renewable resources, such as switchgrass, into energy. He will give a presentation on "Renewable Energy Resources - Biomass Production." Rounding out the program will be presentations on "Dryland Winter Grazing Research" and "Irrigated Forage Grasses." The program begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 12:40 p.m. at the St. John Catholic Church at 609 E. 4th. Lunch will be provided by Stafford County 4-H members at the end of the program. Field day participation is free, but a donation of $5 for lunch is suggested.
