KCIA Announces Application Deadline For Certified Fields

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas Crop Improvement Association (KCIA) has announced a May 1 application deadline for fields intended for certified seed production. Applications received after this date will be assessed late fees.

Persons interested in obtaining necessary forms, determining field eligibility, or in seed certification in general, should contact the KCIA at 785-532-6118 or kancert@aol.com.

All fields intended for certification should be filed. Producers may decide at a later date to drop one or more fields without penalty.

In order for a field to be eligible for certification, its cropping history must be consistent with seed production standards as set forth by the KCIA, said Daryl Strouts, executive director. The Foundation or Registered class of certified seed must have been planted, and the field must pass field inspection and laboratory seed analysis.

The KCIA is a not-for-profit organization that facilitates the orderly introduction of new crop varieties by serving as the official seed certification agency for the state of Kansas.
