May 3 Field Day To Discuss Beef Cattle, Forage Crops

PARSONS, Kan. – New research on managing beef cattle and forage crops will be presented during the Kansas State University Southeast Agricultural Research Center’s annual field day May 3.

The center is located 2 ½ miles west of Mound Valley on U.S. Hwy. 160, then one-quarter mile south on Elk Road. There is no cost to attend, and lunch is free. Registration begins at 9 a.m.

Topics that will be discussed include:

* Steer gains and net returns from rotational grazing of tall grass prairie;

* Feeding supplements for steers grazing native grass;

* New forages for southeastern Kansas;

* Persistence of legumes in tall fescue pasture.

The field day is sponsored by several local businesses and industry organizations.
