Parsons Wheat Tour Scheduled May 24

PARSONS, Kan. – Researchers, farmers and industry officials will be talking about the wheat crop in southeast Kansas during the annual "Wheat Tour" hosted by the K-State Southeast Agricultural Research Center near Parsons.

All are invited to attend. The event begins at 9 a.m. on May 24. The research center is located approximately 2 miles north from the corner of 32nd and Main Street in Parsons.

K-State Research and Extension’s crops and soils specialist Gary Kilgore will lead a tour of 28 wheat varieties. Other sessions, with their presenters, include:

* Response of no-till seeded wheat to fertilizer: Kenneth Kelley, crops and soils agronomist with the Southeast Agricultural Research Center.

* Managing wheat diseases: Bob Bowden, K-State Research and Extension plant pathologist.

* Canola research: Jim Long, crop variety development agronomist with the Southeast Agricultural Research Center.

There is no cost to attend the wheat tour, and refreshments will be provided.
