Thirty Kansans Accepted Into Newest KARL Class

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Thirty Kansans were introduced Saturday, June 9 as the newest members of a two-year leadership training program in agriculture.

The public announcement was made during the Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership (KARL) program’s "Tribute Night", held at Rolling Hills Refuge, Wildlife Conservation Center west of Salina. The new members make up the sixth KARL class since the program's inception in 1990.

The new class "is filled with superb leadership within the agricultural industry and from Kansas’ rural communities," said KARL President Jack Lindquist.

The two-year training class begins this fall and will include 10 in-state seminars, a national study tour to Washington D.C. in March of 2002; and a ten day international study tour in 2003.

The new class members, in alphabetical order by their hometown, include:

Also during KARL’s "Tribute Night":

* Archer Daniels Midland was given special recognition for its ongoing support. The company has contributed $110,000 to KARL since 1991. Other donors also were honored.

* Graduates of Class V and alumni achievements were recognized.

KARL, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit organization that identifies and develops leadership to enhance the quality of life for all Kansans. The program is funded entirely by private contributions.

Participants pay $1,250 tuition each of the two years. Donations cover the remaining $8,500 cost per participant.
