Released: June 01, 2001 Number of 4-H Scholarships Increases MANHATTAN, Kan. – Fifty-eight students in the state will share more than $50,000 in scholarship funds awarded by the Kansas 4-H Foundation. The amount of the awards varies, but the total amount of the educational funds awarded reflects a 20 percent increase over the amount given during the previous year. The educational awards were presented at the Emerald Circle Scholarship & Awards Banquet held in Manhattan May 31. "Scholarships provide an important opportunity to support outstanding 4-H youth and alumni," said Bill Riley, president of the Kansas 4-H Foundation. "We are fortunate to have 4-H donors who support 4-H because they value the opportunities it provided to them. We also are pleased to welcome donors who may not have had the personal experience of 4-H membership. They often see the effectiveness of 4-H in their community and want to help. And, we have some scholarship donors say that it just ‘feels good to help young people realize their potential.’" While the number of donors – and the amount of educational funding – is up, Riley said: "New scholarships always are welcome, as a way to invest in our most important resources for the future – our youth." 4-H scholarship recipients for the 2001-02 academic year, listed in alphabetical order by their home county, include: Allen County: Laura Dunn, N.
