Students Invited To Try Out College Life

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Kansas 4-H members and others who are 13 or older are invited to the Kansas State University campus to attend 4-H Discovery Days, May 30-June 1, 2001.

The annual event provides an opportunity for students to try out campus life. As campus guests, student-visitors stay in dorms, attend classes, learn new skills, and meet new friends, said Lindy Lindquist, K-State Research and Extension associate 4-H specialist who is planning the event.

Lindquist said that Discovery Days is expected to attract 600 students from Kansas.

"This year’s theme is ‘It’s Out of This World!’ New classes include French cooking; ‘Making the News; and ‘Show me the Money,’ an entrepreneurial how-to session. Student-visitors also will

have an opportunity to view the prairie through new eyes, learn sign language and explore career opportunities," she said.

The cost to attend the three-day, on-campus session is $95. Students do not have to be 4-H members to attend. Class space is limited and early registration is advisable. The deadline for registration is April 15.

For more information on Discovery Days, interested persons may contact their local K-State Research and Extension office.
