Call for Papers for the 2008 MeetingApril 19, 2008 Call for Papers for 2008 Meeting of the Kansas Entomological Society Please consider attending the 2008 meeting of the Kansas Entomological Society, Saturday April 19th at the Reiman Gardens on the campus of Iowa State University. As part of the program we invite students to present their work in either oral or poster presentations. There will be awards given to the first ($250), second ($200) and third ($150) best presentations for each type of presentation. Oral presentations will be 10 minutes with 2 minutes for questions. Poster presentation dimensions must confine to ESA specifications. Presentations from other, non-student members are warmly welcomed. Both students and non-students should contact Dr. Matt O’Neal (oneal@iastate.edu) with a title, abstract (250 word max), and presentation type by April 12, 2008. Attach the abstract in a word document to the email. These will be incorporated it the program to be given at the meeting and sent to presenters before the meeting. Student and other presentations will be scheduled for the morning (8-12) before lunch. This years meeting will be held at the Riemann Gardens at Iowa State University (www.reimangardens.iastate.edu ). These facilities include the Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing (www.reimangardens.iastate.edu/en/butterflies), curated by Nathan Brockman, a full time entomologist in charged with programming and butterfly preparation. Nathan is a graduate of ISU and will give a lunch time presentation regarding the curation of the house and then lead a brief tour through the butterfly house as well as the rearing facilities. A light breakfast (beginning at 7:30 am) and lunch will be available as part of your registration. A keynote address will be given at 2:00pm by Dr. Matt Liebman (“Biofuels: how can we produce them sustainably”). Dr. Liebman is agronomy professor and the new Henry A. Wallace Endowed Chair for Sustainable Agriculture. His scientific research focuses on cropping system diversification, conservation systems and weed ecology and management. His research has recently focused on the use of new crops and native perennial grasses for biofuel production.
