POWER OF ONE

Salina, KS

Friday Evening, April 20, 2007 -- Scribe: Hallie Hasel

Graduation weekend began with the Americanized African Attire Tour, including spouses and children of KARL Class VIII. Obviously, we had been united by Hector, the African shirt salesman of Ghana. Following the family introductions and "catching-up" period, Matthew Welsh gave us the forewarning of our upcoming meal: chicken, rice and thoroughly cooked plantains. Thankfully, it was Americanized into BBQ pork, chicken and beef, minus the rice.

Throughout dinner, slides of KARL Class VIII’s many tours were viewed, prompting questions by family, friends and board members. We were able to relive the past two years in the course of one meal. Next, the video of Class VIII’s international tour of Ghana was viewed by all for the first time. Themes such as "KEEP GHANA CLEAN FOR LONGER" and "DO NOT URINATE HERE" became the topics for discussion.

Many of us were thinking about how much we had "grown" within the previous two years, both as individuals and as a class. We had reached the end of what seemed like such a long program initially, and then became a truly short period of time. The evening ended with classmates, spouses and families enjoying memories and reminiscing over the past two years together, looking forward to our graduation ceremony on Saturday.

A Highlight for the graduation day events was the 45 minutes that was spent with Gregory R. Page, president and Chief Operations Officer of Cargill, Inc. of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mr Page also served as graduation speaker.

Mr. Page was born in 1952 in Bottineau, North Dakota, a town near the Canadian border with a population of about 2,300 people.

He joined Cargill in 1974, and has served in various worldwide posts, including corporate vice president in charge of Excel Corporation and other red meat businesses, before rising to president and COO in 2000. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of North Dakota.

Effective in June Cargill President Gregory Page will be the chief executive officer of the global food and agriculture giant.

It was then time for the Graduation Ceremony and, much too quickly, adjournment of-The Power of One Seminar. Class VIII was dismissed as the newest leaders for the state when Daniel Snyder closed with the motto, " With Leadership Comes Responsibility".

Thanks for all the memories!!!
