Q. How can I be part of the program?

A. If you are committed to Kansas agriculture and rural communities and their relationship to local, national and international issues, you can apply for our two- year program offered every odd numbered year. The
Class will be made up of, but not restricted to, men and women predominately between 25 and 55 years of age.

Q. Am I eligible?

A.  Each applicant must be a citizen of the U.S. and a resident of the State of Kansas for at least one year at the time of application, with no more than one family member accepted into any one Class.

Candidates must have a current record of demonstrated leadership as an adult in organizations or their community.

Each class is composed of up to 30 individuals (no more than one individual per family) involved as operators of production agricultural units, from support industries, and/or involved in rural community
leadership positions.

Q. What are the requirements?

A.  Self-employed applicants must offer evidence that time away for study tours and seminars will not adversely affect their business or operation. Those who are not self-employed must have the approval of
their employers.

A selection committee will review applications and schedule interviews with the top candidates in their areas. Candidates must be available for a regional interview during the first full week of May in odd numbered years.

The Class, a representative cross-section of Kansas, is selected in a joint meeting of the Board by May 20. Each Class, limited to a maximum of 30 persons, is organized in odd-numbered years for their two-year program.

Accepted candidates are expected to participate in all of the two-year program.  The participant tuition fee of $3,000 will be scheduled for payment as follows: $500 due (non-refundable) by May 28 with registration, $1,000 due by August; balance of $1,500 due by August 1 of the second year.

Class members are expected to demonstrate a satisfactory level of interest and participation.

Seminars are in three-day segments, usually noon Wednesday through noon Friday, from November through February. The national and international seminars are one week and 12-14 days, respectively, and are held in March.

Q. What happens once I submit the required Applicant Profile Forms?

A. A selection committee will review applications and schedule interviews with the top candidates in their home regions.  Following interviews the Class would be selected by the board of directors and named to the public on or about the first week of June.
