KARL Receives Major Gift From 21st Century Alliance

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- 21st Century Alliance, through its successor organization, 21st Century Producers, Inc., a joint venture with an Illinois agriculture farmer alliance, has donated one-half of its remaining funds to the Kansas Agriculture and Rural Leadership Program.

The donation, called the 21st Century Alliance Endowment Gift for the KARL Foundation, formally signals the end of operations of the Alliance.

"The Alliance has seen KARL as a progressive voice for rural entrepreneurship, vision casting and rural development," said Lynn Rundle, former chief executive officer of 21st Century Alliance. "The farmers who joined the alliance over the past 10 years will reap lasting benefits from their contribution to KARL."

The foundation fund is part of the permanently endowed gifts for KARL, Inc.

The 21st Century Producers and KARL joined forces when the producers group donated $33,000 to be placed into the endowment account at the Trust Company of Manhattan. The fund principle will be retained with indefinite benefits to the KARL Program derived from income proceeds of the investment.

Special recognition of the endowment gift will take place at KARL's bi-annual Blue Chip and Future of Agriculture Seminars. The gift will help with costs for speakers at the "Futuring" session for each KARL Class, beginning with the newly named Class IX.

"The contribution is the largest single endowment gift that the KARL Program has received to date," said Jack Lindquist, president of KARL, Inc. "The fund will remind us of the progressive philosophy of the 21st Century Producers and their efforts to retain more of the retail dollar on our Kansas farms and in our rural communities. The gift will be a permanent element of citizen education, for socio- economic development of the agricultural industry and for the people of the State of Kansas."

Since its inception, KARL has helped 270 Kansans improve their leadership skills. Each two-year class includes 50 days of training for participants, including state, national and international study tours. The two-year cost per adult student is $15,000 - $12,500 of which is supported by donations.

The KARL Program is located at Kansas State University through an in-kind gift of office space. More information is available by contacting Lindquist at 785-532-6300 or by visiting the KARL Web site: http://www.karlprogram.com/.
