BRIEF DESCRIPTION (include major objectives)

Mission nutrition is a nutrition education program designed to help pregnant women with limited resources and families with young children maximize the resources available to them and improve the quality of their diets.  There are six lessons based on the Food Guide Pyramid each emphasizing active participation of the learner.  Learners will increase knowledge and skill in:  1) ability to plan nutritionally balanced meals, 2) ability to interpret food labels, select, buy and/or prepare foods to meet nutritional needs 3) ability to handle food safely.  Leaders will improve:  1) dietary intake behavior; 2) meal planning, food selection, purchasing and preparation; 3) savings in the food budget; 4) safe food handling.
