Horticulture Internships
Horticulture Interns receive training from professional horticulturists, help with the apple orchard utilizing integrated Pest Management, assist with gardening at the Center, play an active role in prairie restoration, and become involved in all horticulture activities at CNC as they arise. In addition, all interns at CNC are expected to design and complete an individual project of their choice to be used at CNC in the future.

Clear Creek Golf Club is a Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed golf course currently in phase II of construction with grassing date scheduled for May 1st. Intern will be exposed to all phases of construction including, shaping, irrigation installation, drainage placement and installation, bunker construction, and agronomic practices that deal with golf course grow-in situations.
The fairways, tees, and intermediate roughs will be sand capped and grassed the Cavalier Zoysia. Primary roughs will be grassed with a native species common the Northwest Arkansas area. Greens will be seeded in late summer and no variety of bentgrass has been selected at this time.
An opening date of Spring 2004 has been set and Clear Creek will be an exclusive private club that will receive 12,000-15,000 rounds in it's first years and will max out at 20,000 rounds once full membership has been established.
$7.50/hour plus overtime

Internship Announcement:
The John C. Pair Horticulture Center of Kansas State University is offering 2 internships for the upcoming summer of 2004.
The John C. Pair Horticulture Center is a field research station in the Department of Horticulture, Forestry and Recreation Resources with ongoing projects in ornamental woody and herbaceous plant production and evaluation, turfgrass evaluation, small fruits production, vegetable production, medicinal herbs production and evaluation, and nut crops evaluation. The research center is located in Haysville, KS just south of Wichita.
Responsibilities:
The interns will be supervised by the station director and field supervisor, and work closely with the staff in all aspects of the research center's daily activities. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, planting, harvesting, irrigation, mowing, data collection , general station maintenance, installation of new research projects, demolition of old projects and set-up for field days and special events. Under the supervision of the station director, each intern will have the opportunity to adopt a small research project to oversee for the summer. Projects will most likely be in Woody Ornamental Production and Evaluation.
Unique Learning Opportunities:
This is a unique opportunity for undergraduate students to experience a part of Kansas State University not normally encountered during a typical bachelors degree program. Students will gain experience in all aspects of plant production as well as hands on experience in field research methods and some of the challenges encountered therein. Projects are primarily field oriented, although some greenhouse work is anticipated.
Experience:
No experience necessary. However, a positive attitude and strong work ethic is required.
Salary: $8/hr for 12 weeks, students will have to secure their own housing.
