About Us

The Kansas Grassland Water Quality Stewardship Project is a joint endeavor of the KSU Department of Agronomy and Department of Agricultural Economics. The goal of the project is to reduce non-point source pollution emanating from Kansas grasslands. Nutrients, sediment and fecal coliform bacteria entering streams through runoff and direct deposition by livestock are of greatest concern.

To improve water quality in Kansas, the KGWQSP works directly with producers and with those who interact with producers. A variety of activities and educational tools are being used to disseminate information across the state. These include:
meetings
workshops
demonstrations
publications
newsletters
literature database relating to grassland water quality
one-on-one range management planning.

Critical to the success of range management changes is a careful process of planning. This includes inventorying and assessing current resources, identifying potential changes and analyzing each, and then implementing and monitoring these changes.

Partial financial assistance for this project has been provided by EPA-Section 319 Non-point Source Pollution Control Grant C90077405-09, through a grant agreement with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, Bureau of Water, Watershed Management Section.
