The recent wave of Foot and Mouth Rotating ImageDisease in Europe and many other countries, following closely on the heels of Mad Cow disease (BSE), is the cause of much concern here in the States.

K-State's Colleges of Veterinary Medicine and  Agriculture have teamed up to provide the people of Kansas with factual information and the latest news.

Foot and Mouth Disease is not currently present in U.S. cattle herds. The last case was over 70 years ago, and was contained and eradicated quickly.

Since that time, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Kansas Animal Health Department, and Kansas State Department of Agriculture have continued to monitor U.S. cattle herds for any signs of disease.  They take aggressive steps to prevent FMD from spreading to the U.S. whenever there is an outbreak in other countries.
