RESULTS OF WEST NILE VIRUS DETECTION IN DEAD BIRDS:

I've received requests from some county extension specialists asking how to find out the results of the West Nile virus analyzes from the dead birds that they have submitted from their extension office.

I contacted KDHE and found out the following. The positive detection of WNV in dead birds is telephoned and emailed to a particular County Health Department. If a county extension specialist who submitted a dead bird is interested in knowing the result of WNV analyzes, the easiest and fastest way is to call the local health department. They should have and give you the information. Also, county extension specialists (if interested) should be able to arrange for an automatic notification of positive birds from their local county health department. Frankly, all county ext. specialists who take their time and effort to handle and submit dead birds for the WNV surveillance deserve at least that.
