Healthy and Sustainable Communities (alphabetical order)

Community Toolbox (ctb.ku.edu) provides practical information to support work in promoting community health and development. The site is maintained by the Work Group on Health Promotion and Community Development at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, and was developed with AHEC/Community Partners in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Habitat for Humanity International
(www.habitat.org) is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry. HFHI seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

Health and Human Services (www.hhs.gov/specificpopulations/index.shtml) This Federal agency's website has a wealth of information and links to the many agencies for which it has oversight. The link above goes directly to a "Special Populations" page. This list allows people to access information about target population(s) with whom they work. The list includes well over a dozen populations. Examples include Adolescents/Teens/Youth; Agricultural Workers/Migrant Workers; Ethnic and Racial Minorities; Newborns, Babies, and Infants; and Rural Health and Social Services.

League of Kansas Municipalities (www.lkm.org) The LKM's mission is to unify, strengthen, and advocate for the interests of Kansas municipalities to advance the general welfare and promote the quality of life of the people who live within our cities.

MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) (www.madd.org)
MADD's mission is to stop drunk driving and to support victims of this violent crime.

National Crime Prevention Council (www.ncpc.org) A national educational non-profit, the nation's focal point for crime prevention information. The NCPC's mission is to enable people to create safer and more caring communities by addressing the causes of crime and violence and reducing the opportunities for crime to occur.

National Criminal Justice Reference Service (www.ncjrs.org) NCJRS is a federally funded resource offering justice and substance abuse information to support research, policy, and program development worldwide.

National Institute of Justice (www.ojp.usdoj.gov/nij) NIJ is the research, development, and evaluation agency of the U.S. Department of Justice and is solely dedicated to researching crime control and justice issues. NIJ provides objective, independent, evidence-based knowledge and tools to meet the challenges of crime and justice, particularly at the State and local levels.

PAVNET - Partnerships Against Violence Network (www.pavnet.org) a "virtual library" of information about violence and youth-at-risk, representing data from seven different Federal agencies

PRIDE (www.kansasprideprogram.ksu.edu) The Kansas PRIDE Program serves communities across the state to encourage and assist local government and volunteers in making their community a better place to live and work.

Pew Partnership, The (www.pew-partnership.org) is a civic research organization whose mission is to document and disseminate cutting-edge community solutions.

Self Help Network of Kansas (www.selfhelpnetwork.wichita.edu) Community center for community support and research; facilitate and support grassroots and community partnership efforts in creating and sustaining positive change
