The
Kansas Department of Health & Environment lists agriculture
as one of the most hazardous industries in Kansas
In 2007, 18 Kansans,
ranging in age from 11 to 83, were killed in
agriculture-related incidents. Nine of those deaths involved
tractors.
Farming is one
of the most dangerous occupations in the United States.
More than 700 farmers and ranchers die in work-related accidents
each year. Another 120,000 agricultural workers suffer disabling
injuries from work-related accidents. It is also estimated
that 104 children are killed annually in farm accidents.
Farmers, ranchers
and their families live, work and play at their workplace.
This often exposes them to diverse hazards associated with
machinery, chemicals and livestock.
