2004 Accomplished Provided first aid/CPR training for faculty and staff.
2004 Accomplished Reduced targeted safety and compliance problems in laboratories and milling areas by 70% during the year as documented by audits from the K-State Research & Extension safety office.

2004 Accomplished Provided safety training to students in Principles of Milling and Food & Feed Product Protection classes.

2003 Accomplished Solicited employee input on safety by means of a survey. The survey responses were used to develop objectives for 2004.

2003 Accomplished Ordered temporary fluorescent exit signs to be posted until facilities install permanent signs.
2003 Accomplished Ordered a flammable liquid storage cabinet for the chemical storage room. Each laboratory will be getting a flammable storage unit in 2004.
2003 Accomplished Conducted chemical safety and hazardous waste inspections in all laboratories. Helped employees resolve chemical safety issues, and disposed of waste chemicals through K-State Public Safety.
2003 Accomplished Provided each laboratory with a 3-ring notebook containing MSDSs for the hazardous chemicals used/stored in that laboratory, compiled a master copy of all MSDSs for the department, and developed an Access database for maintaining and updating MSDSs.
2003 Accomplished Provided faculty with information about the state fire inspection, and addressed all identified fire safety issues.
2003 Accomplished Provided hazardous chemical and spill response training to faculty, staff, graduate students, and student technicians.
2003 Accomplished Repaired a number of malfunctioning fume hoods.
2002 Accomplished The committee was trained on August 23, 2002.
2002 Accomplished Provided hazardous waste disposal training to affected employees.
2002 Accomplished The committee is especially interested in safety training and procedures as they relate to grain handling, processing, and pesticide use.

2002 Accomplished Established a self-inspection procedure for periodically reviewing and improving hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal practices.
