2004 Accomplished Conducted a department-wide solid waste review and disposed of hazardous waste and obsolete/unused items.
2004 Accomplished Provided safety training to employees and students relating to office ergonomics and confined spaces.
2004 Accomplished Provided respiratory protection, medical surveillance, and fit test for student working with hazardous chemicals.
2003 Accomplished Provided the following training to employees and students: safety with woodworking power equipment, metal fabrication equipment safety, and Farm Bureau “distracted driver” seminar.
2003 Accomplished Posted laboratory safety checklists in labs.
2003 Accomplished Anchored the drill press to the floor in room 37.
2003 Accomplished Established a driver safety qualification program, requiring proof of driver’s license and insurance.
2003 Accomplished The forklift has been checked over to identify repairs and upgrades needed to improve its safety.
2003 Accomplished Inspected and replaced defective cords on electrical hand tools.
2003 Accomplished Conducted a survey to determine safety training needs.
2003 Accomplished Performed ergonomic evaluations of student computer workstations.
2003 Accomplished Performed an evaluation to identify confined spaces and took steps to protect employees who might enter these spaces.
2003 Accomplished Checked and repaired malfunctioning fume hoods.
2003 Accomplished Improved safety guarding on the radial arm saw.
2003 Accomplished Provided eye and hearing protection equipment in a new wall cabinet in room 142.
2002 Accomplished Established a self-inspection procedure for periodically reviewing and improving hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal practices.
2002 Accomplished Installed the following safety equipment: welding flash screen, new first aid kit for the shop, eye and hearing protection equipment rack and signage, and a maximum load sign on the overhead storage in room 37C.
2002 Accomplished Removed flammable items stored in room 226B.
2002 Accomplished Replaced the Stoddard solvent in the parts washing tank with less hazardous mineral spirits.
2002 Accomplished Obtained input from employees regarding safety issues.
2002 Accomplished Developed an incident reporting system.
2002 Accomplished The committee has been exploring ways to provide safety training to students and employees, and is especially interested in motor vehicle safety and safety with equipment and machinery. Some training has already been provided.
2002 Accomplished The committee was trained on August 5, 2002.
2002 Accomplished Provided safety training to employees and students on topics such as shop safety and laboratory safety.
