Two kernels from the same wheat head?

photo 105a

We have two kernels that are about the same length, but the one on the right is more plump. Could these two kernels be from the same wheat head? Think hard!

If you answered yes, you are correct! It just so happens that the bigger kernel was taken from a floret in a middle spikelet of the head, while the kernel on the left was taken from a floret in a spikelet at the top of the head. And as you know, there could be several days difference when these two florets actually flowered and that would cause the difference in kernel size and age.
